Meet Our Interns as Summer Program Hits Mid-Point

The summer is flying by!  Our interns are providing positive feedback on their weekly classes, field trips (pictured) AND most significantly, their on the job training. Here’s a brief intro to three of our hard-working interns:

Shawn Greene – Borger Management

“I love having the opportunity to work at different apartment buildings that each have different needs,” said Shawn Greene, who is sponsored by Borger Management, a multifamily property management company based in DC. Before the AEF internship, Shawn attended the SOME Center for Empowerment Training (CET). She is very grateful to the Foundation for helping her gain experience in a field that allows her to work directly with her hands, and she feels confident that she will be prepared for a full-time position following the internship.

Mr. Quinton Taylor – WC Smith & Co., Inc.

A father of three children, Quinton Taylor was working at an HVAC company before starting the AEF Internship program. He was not getting the experience and training that he wanted, so he is very pleased with his decision to join his sponsor firm, WC Smith & Co., Inc, a multifamily property management firm based in DC.  “So far, everyone is treating me very well and I am learning a lot – including how to turn over apartments when tenants leave. I’m really glad I got this opportunity and I believe the experience I’m gaining will help me take better care of my family.”

Mr. Shawn Porter – Boston Properties

Before his selection as an AEF summer intern, Shawn Porter was working in a variety of jobs — from delivering food for UBER Eats to delivering beer for a distributor. He heard about the internship from his father who works in the building industry. “I’ve learned from my sponsor company, Boston Properties, so much about the industry itself and how important it is to maintain these expensive office buildings properly,” Shawn said.  He believes the internship is “excellent and is a fantastic opportunity. It’s offering the interns their first step to work for any property management company.”
