Let’s Meet our Interns as Summer Program Heats Up!
The AEF Paid Summer Internship program is heating up along with the summer temps! Our interns are learning on the job – thanks to 16 internship sponsor companies, and in the classroom – thanks to our education partnership with NAPEEF.
Here’s a spotlight on two of our hard-working interns:
Originally from Ethiopia, Ermias Jiru was helping to remodel houses for a local contractor before he heard about the AEF internship. As someone who prides himself on being a “problem solver,” Ermias obtained his Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) certification at Montgomery College, and is now benefiting from expert training with his internship sponsor, MRP Real Estate Services. “Although I have some challenges with my English language skills, I am learning a lot and I’m very grateful to the Foundation for this opportunity.”

Before Alonzo Gloster was selected as an AEF summer intern, he was working as a flagger for road closures. He is “loving” the internship at his sponsor company, Borger Management. He “feels blessed with the opportunity.” Alonza has already learned a lot about A/C and plumbing, and plans to refer friends to the Foundation’s internship program in the future.
